A beautiful scenic drive through Tamaki Drive coastal road takes you to Bastion Point for a scenic view of Auckland Harbour. Then proceed to the extinct volcanic crater Mt. Eden for a different view of Auckland. Spend a relaxing time at Auckland Domain by the foothills of One Tree Hill. In the evening, take in the panoramic views from the Skytower (entry included). 

Drive to Waitomo Caves (197 km, 2.5 – 3 hrs), the ancient limestone region beneath which is a series of vast cave system decorated with glow worms. Take a guided tour with boat ride through the glow worm caves and marvel at thousands of magical glowworms. 

Drive to Rotorua (142 km, 2.5 hrs) and check-in.

Discover the Region’s geothermal wonderland of Te Puia (entry included) – featuring dramatic geysers, bubbling mud pools, and beautiful native bush. Get up close to the biggest, naturally active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere Pōhutu Geyser. Discover unique Maori culture with a Maori Cultural Performance. Next proceed to Agrodome farm for a tour and show. Rest of the afternoon is free. 

Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland (Temporarily closed. Expected to open in November), named “one of the 20 most surreal places in the world” is New Zealand’s most colourful geothermal elements sculpted by thousands of years of geothermal activity is 20 mins drive from Rotorua on the way to Taupo.

Drive to Taupo (79km, 1 hr), a town near the centre of New Zealand’s North Island, distinguished by its lakefront setting and outdoor sports ranging from fishing to jetboating. The vast waters of Lake Taupo, a volcanic caldera, drain into the Huka Falls, dramatic, crystal-blue cascades reachable by hiking and biking trails. Visit the Huka Falls Lookout to get a view of the spectacular falls.

After lunch, drive to Wellington (371km, 5 hrs). Rest of the evening free.

Surrounded by hilly terrain and with a stunning natural harbour, Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city. Natural attractions in Wellington include Mount Victoria, the Botanic Gardens (best accessed by Wellington’s iconic Cable Car) and Zealandia native wildlife sanctuary. Wellington is also home to Te Papa (our place), the national museum and art gallery.

Travel across the Cook Strait on one of the most scenic ferry trips to Picton (InterIslander Ferry 3.5 hrs)

Drive to Kaikoura (158km, 2.5 hrs) and check in. Evening free.

Optional Whale Watching @SGD 160 per person. Every Whale Watch tour is a unique experience, and the sightings vary. Giant Sperm Whales are the stars of the show and year-round residents.

Drive to Christchurch (180 km, 2.5 hrs) and check in. Relaxed walk in the evening.

Drive to Lake Tekapo (229km, 3 hrs)

Lake Tekapo is situated south-west of Christchurch in the Mackenzie Basin. The township faces north across the remarkable turquoise colored lake to the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. You will get stunning photo opportunities here. Visit the Good Shepherd Church. 

Proceed to Queenstown (257km, 3.5 hrs) and check in. In the evening, explore the Queenstown Garden.

Known as an adventure capital of the world and with its stunning scenery, Queenstown is the perfect place to try bungy jumping, jet boating or sky diving to get the adrenaline rush.

Alternatively, travel up the Queenstown Hill and enjoy spectacular bird’s eye views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range. Drive to nearby Arrowtown and explore. In the evening, take a ride in Skyline Gondola 480 metres up to the top of Bob’s Peak for a spectacular 220-degree panoramic views of Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Walter and Cecil Peak and Queenstown. Try your hand at Luge.

Drive to Milford Sound (288 km, 4 hrs), once described by Rudyard Kipling as eighth natural wonder of the world. Take a scenic boat cruise (lunch box provided) soaking in the blue skies, rising steep cliffs out of the deep blue water, green mountains, cascading waterfalls and native wildlife – New Zealand’s wild side at its absolute best. Drive back to Queenstown (4 hrs).

Drive to Wanaka (67.2 km, 1.25 hrs). The lakeside town of Wanaka has some unique attractions. Puzzling World (entry included) is an iconic, award-winning attraction boasting the world’s first ‘Mega Maze’, five Illusion Rooms and a huge Puzzle Café.

Proceed to Franz Josef (286 km, 4 hrs). Check in & relax.

Drive to Greymouth (2.5 hrs). Drop the car at the train station.

Take Tranz Alpine Train to Christchurch, one of the world’s great train journeys covering 223 kilometres (139 miles) one-way, taking just under 5 hours. You’ll traverse the majestic Canterbury Plains, to the backdrop of the mighty Southern Alps – the journey of a lifetime. Shuttle transfer to accommodation and check in.
