Sharing its border with Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, Cambodia is a small country in South East Asia with tremendous history, heritage, culture and diverse landscapes.
It’s a country of contrasts – from the ancient grandeur of Angkor Wat, the magnificent ruins of Khmer empire; ravages of its tragic past in Phnom Penh; an exotic landscape comprising of tropical rainforests, lush highlands, forest flanked rivers and picturesque islands with idyllic beaches lining the southern coastline; to the bustling cities with vibrant food streets.
Despite its tumultuous history, the nation has emerged as one of the most genuinely warm and welcoming destinations.
Angkor Wat remains the main draw for first time visitors but if you have time, extend your stay to explore the Cardamom mountains or the blissful beaches of Sihanoukville, Kep or Song Saa.
Like any country in the tropical zone, Cambodia has a monsoon season starting from May to September which makes the dry months stretching from October to April as the best time to visit. March to June are the hottest months while most of the flooding occurs in July and August. However, if you like to avoid crowds, Angkor Wat is stunning in the wet season with blanketing greens of the countryside and enjoyable boat rides to the stilted villages on Tonle Sap and flooded forest.
